The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a significant step to strengthen medical education and health services in the state by issuing orders to create 75 new posts for Assistant Professors in medical colleges. This decision, aimed at bolstering the teaching faculty, has been taken in the public interest, and the Health Secretary has issued a notification regarding the same.
These posts have been created across 12 specialties, including departments such as Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Radio-diagnosis, General Surgery, General Medicine, and Paediatrics. The posts have been allocated to medical colleges in Tanda, Nerchowk (Mandi), Nahan, Chamba, and Hamirpur.
The highest number of posts 13, have been created for Radio-diagnosis, followed by nine for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and eight for Paediatrics. Five posts each have been created for General Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Cardiology, Microbiology, Psychiatry, ENT, and Pathology. Additionally, approval has been granted to fill four posts for Biochemistry and six for General Medicine.
Establishment of New Departments
A decision has been taken to establish Cardiology departments at the medical colleges in Nahan and Chamba. Posts for Assistant Professors (Super-speciality) in Cardiology have also been created at these institutions. This move will help improve specialized medical services and increase the availability of specialist doctors, even in the state’s remote areas.
