Stones suddenly tumbled down from the hillside and struck an HRTC bus operating on the Bharmour-Hadsar-Kugti route. As a result, the bus’s front wheel veered off the road.
Fortunately, upon spotting the stones falling from the hill, the driver demonstrated great presence of mind; he applied the emergency brakes and brought the bus to a halt, thereby averting a major disaster.
It is reported that approximately 20 passengers were on board the bus at the time the stones struck. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning. After disembarking and inspecting the bus’s damaged tire, the passengers expressed their deep gratitude to the driver for saving their precious lives.
Among the passengers, including Amit Kumar, Kishan Chand, Ashok Kumar, and Pramod Kumar—it was noted that they rely on this very bus for their daily commute within the region.
On Wednesday, too, they had boarded the bus on schedule for their journey. Suddenly, stones began to rain down from the hillside, causing the bus’s front wheel to slip off the road. Acting decisively in the nick of time, the driver applied the brakes and safely evacuated the passengers from the bus, ensuring they narrowly escaped falling victim to a major accident.
