Action is being taken against those involved in drug abuse under two important laws, the Himachal Pradesh Organized Crime Prevention and Control Bill 2025 and the Himachal Pradesh Drugs and Controlled Substances Prevention, De-addiction and Rehabilitation Bill 2025.

The Himachal Pradesh Organized Crime Prevention and Control Bill has stringent provisions for death penalty, life imprisonment, heavy fine and confiscation of property. The second bill ensures strict punishment for illegal drug trade. Inspired by the Sikkim model, a state fund has been created for de-addiction, rehabilitation and livelihood support. Curbing drug smugglers, detention orders have been issued in 41 out of 123 proposals under the PIT-NDPS Act in the year 2024. Action has been taken in 70 cases by identifying 1,214 properties of drug smugglers. Legal action has been taken against 80 government employees involved in the drug trade.
