Himachal: School student undertakes responsibility at polling booth

Himachal Pradesh: Now school children will also give their duty in every polling station for the Lok Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh. The Higher Education Department has issued instructions to appoint two NCC students from every school of the state on duty in every polling station.

In this, these students will be deployed for the convenience of senior citizens, pregnant women and disabled people. Cadet students will be deployed in uniform.

They assist the police personnel or home guards in non-security related duties like traffic management, crowd control, assistance to elderly and disabled voters, medical assistance in case of any emergency.

This step of the Election Commission will prove helpful in involving the youth in the biggest celebration of democracy and making them aware of the electoral process. They will be given equal remuneration as other polling workers. He said that the deployed cadets will be given remuneration at par with other polling personnel for election duty.

Apart from this, they will be given Rs 150 per day or packed lunch and the concerned District Election Officer will make arrangements for their transportation. In case of any unexpected incident, these cadets will be entitled to ex-gratia amount.
