Earthquake jolts of 3.4 magnitude hits Himachal Pradesh's Mandi

Shimla: Earthquake tremors were felt in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh this morning. Its intensity was measured at 3.7 on the Richter scale. Its depth inside the ground was 5 kilometers. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), mild tremors were felt at 8:42 am. Its epicenter was Kiargi of Sundarnagar.

People who felt the tremors came out of their houses. However, due to the low intensity, most people could not feel them. Let us tell you that many areas of Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Kangra, Kinnaur and Mandi fall in Zone-5 which is very sensitive from the earthquake point of view. That is why earthquakes keep occurring here again and again.

Now know why earthquakes occur?

The surface of the earth is mainly made up of 7 large and many small tectonic plates. These plates keep floating continuously and sometimes collide with each other.

Many times the corners of the plates get bent due to collision and when too much pressure is applied, these plates start breaking. In such a situation, the energy coming out from below finds a way to come out and after this disturbance an earthquake occurs.
