Shimla: Heavy rain is expected in Himachal Pradesh from tomorrow for the next six days. Orange alert for heavy rain has been issued especially for 29 and 30 June. Yellow alert has been issued for today and tomorrow in nine districts except Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur.
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), yellow alert is issued when the danger is low. Orange alert is issued when caution is needed and the danger is high and red alert is issued when the danger is very high.
Yellow, orange and red alert
According to IMD, yellow alert is issued when 0-64 mm of rain is forecast in 24 hours, orange alert is issued when 65 to 114 mm of rain is forecast and red alert is issued when more than 115 mm of rain is forecast. During this time, along with rain, strong winds can also blow at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour at some places.
Advisory to local people including tourists
This season, the Meteorological Department has given an orange alert for rain for the first time. In view of this, the people of the state will have to be cautious. Tourists along with local people will also have to avoid going to high altitude, land slide prone areas and near rivers and streams.
Pre-monsoon showers in many cities
Pre-monsoon rains have been happening in many areas of the state for the last three days. Due to this, the people of the state have definitely got relief from the scorching heat. But the temperature of other cities including Una is still higher than normal.
