Himachal Assembly Budget Session: Condolence on the demise of former PM and MP

The proceedings of the second day of the Himachal Vidhan Sabha budget session began with the condolence of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu condoled the death of Dr. Singh. He said that he was the Finance Minister of the country from 1991 to 1996.

During this time, Dr. Singh laid a strong foundation for economic reforms. While being the Prime Minister, he took many revolutionary decisions. He took steps like Right to Information (RTI), MNREGA, Right to Education (RTE), Food Security, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and loan waiver of 72 lakh farmers to the country.

The Chief Minister said that Atal Tunnel Rohtang, three medical colleges of Nerchowk Mandi and Kangra, Central University and NFT Institute in Himachal are also his contribution. Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur also condoled the death of Dr. Singh and remembered his works.

Condoled the death of Kishan Kapoor

The CM also condoled the death of former Himachal minister and MP Kishan Kapoor. He praised the works of five-time MLA and three-time minister Kishan Kapoor and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

At the same time, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar, Health Minister Dhaniram Shandil, TCP Minister Rajesh Dharmani, BJP MLA Vipin Singh Parmar, Sudhir Sharma, Dr. Janak Raj etc. also expressed condolences on the demise of both the late leaders.

After the condolence, the Leader of Opposition raised the matter under Point of Order on the headlines of the news published in the newspapers regarding the Governor’s address and said that the government is pressurizing the media. On this, he urged the Speaker to take cognizance.

CM Sukhu said that no one has control over the headlines of newspapers. It is his right. If the Governor has read the address, then it will be written by the Governor.
