Himachal Bypoll results: Congress win from Dehra, Nalagarh; BJP clinches Hamirpur seat

The results on three assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh are out. Elections were held in three seats of the assembly, of which two were won by the Congress party and one by the BJP.

Kamlesh Thakur, wife of CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, won the election from the Dehra assembly seat by 9399 votes. She defeated Hoshiar Singh of the BJP.

The Hamirpur seat has been retained by BJP. Ashish Sharma of BJP has won the election from Hamirpur by a thin margin of 1571 votes.

In Nalagarh, Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa, close to former CM Virbhadra Singh, has won by 8990 votes.

Dehra Assembly Seat

Dehra is the hometown of Kamlesh Thakur where she emerged victorious. Kamlesh Thakur secured total of 32,737 votes whereas BJP candidate who stood at second place managed to win 23,338 votes. Earlier the trends showed a neck to neck fight between Congress and BJP but Kamlesh Thakur later maintained the lead and won the election.

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s reaction to Kamlesh Thakur’s win

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that they were not able to win the election from Dehra for 25 years. The party made Kamlesh Thakur the candidate and he won the election. Congress is also leading in Nalagarh and now Congress has 40 seats in the assembly.

Hamirpur Assembly Seat

Hamirpur Assembly seat has been won by the BJP. BJP’s victory is a setback for CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu as it is his hometown and BJP candidate Ashish Sharma registered a win with thin margin of 1571 votes.

Randhir Sharma, in-charge of the Hamirpur seat of BJP said, “Congress has lost despite every unethical tactics adopted by the government. He said that Chief Minister Sukhu has lost in his district. He had also lost in Lok Sabha. This is his moral defeat. He said, that Congress first lost the Badsar seat in CM’s district and now it has lost the Hamirpur seat as well.”

Nalagarh Assembly Seat

Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa, close to former CM Virbhadra Singh, has won by 8990 votes. He in total garnered 34,608 votes whereas KL Thakur of BJP trailed by securing 25,618 votes.
