Himachal: Case filed against EPFO ​​officer Ravi Anand in disproportionate assets case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Ravi Anand, the then Regional Commissioner of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) District Office Baddi, for amassing assets disproportionate to his income. Ravi was arrested by the CBI for taking bribe while he was the Regional Commissioner in Baddi. Ravi is accused of acquiring assets disproportionate to his income while working as a public servant. The CBI has registered an FIR after investigating the income between April 1, 2022 and November 30, 2024.

The CBI had arrested Ravi Anand, an enforcement officer Bilaspur resident Madan Lal Bhatti and private consultant Sanjay Kumar resident Bihar in November 2024 for taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh. The enforcement officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh for himself and other senior officials of EPFO ​​through a consultant to settle the five-year-old PF case of the complainant’s firm. The accused had talked of recovering Rs 45-50 lakh if ​​the demand was not met.

On the demand of bribe, the complainant lodged a complaint with SP CBI (ACB) Shimla on 23 November. When CBI investigated the complaint, the allegations were found to be true and a case was registered against the accused on 24 November. On the basis of this case, when CBI investigated the income of accused Ravi Anand, investigation of bank accounts revealed that he had amassed assets disproportionate to his income.

In the bribery case, the CBI team recovered Rs 23.5 lakh along with other documents from the residence complex of Regional Commissioner Ravi Anand in Chandigarh. A 9-member team led by Superintendent of Police CBI Rajesh Chahal carried out this operation.
