Shimla, July 5: A flash flood alert has been issued in 4 districts of Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours. This warning has been given to Chamba, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts. The Kol dam management has decided to release water in view of the rising water level in the reservoir.
Water will be released from the Kol dam built on the Sutlej river in Bilaspur at 11 am. Its water will enter Punjab via Ghumarvi, Bilaspur Sadar, Nainadevi, and Nangal. After releasing water from the dam, the water level of the Sutlej River will rise by 4 to 5 meters. Because of this, people in low-lying areas have been advised not to go near the river.
Red alert for heavy rain tomorrow
Heavy rain warning has been issued in the state for the next 5 days. Orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in Kangra and Mandi districts today, while yellow alert has been issued in Chamba, Shimla, Kullu and Sirmaur. Red alert has been issued for very heavy rain tomorrow (6 July) in 3 districts Kangra, Sirmaur and Mandi. On the other hand, more than 32 people missing due to cloudburst in Mandi have not been traced even after 5 days. Army is engaged in relief and rescue work.
In view of the rain in Himachal, people have been advised not to go to rivers, streams and landslide areas and avoid unnecessary travel. An orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kullu, Shimla and Solan tomorrow.
Orange alert has been issued in all the 10 districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti on July 7. There is a warning of heavy rain in Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts on July 8.
32 people missing for 5 days
More than 32 people who went missing after 12 midnight on June 30 and cloudburst at 15 places in Mandi on the morning of July 1 have not been traced even after 5 days. Relief and rescue operations are on to search for them. So far, bodies of 17 people have been recovered. The number of missing people may increase further.
Indian Army soldiers have reached Seraj for relief and rescue work. With their help, relief and rescue work will be expedited.
The loss in Saraj alone is many times more than the loss in the state
168 houses have been damaged in different areas of Mandi district after cloudburst. Seraj assembly constituency of Mandi has suffered the most damage. Seraj assembly constituency alone has suffered many times more damage than the damage caused by rain in the entire state so far.
69 people died in the monsoon season
So far (20 June to 4 July) 69 people have died in this monsoon season in the state. One died in a landslide, 8 in flash floods, 14 in cloudburst, 7 in drowning, 2 in snake bites, 3 in electric shock, 6 in falling from hills and high places, 2 in other reasons and 26 in accidents.
Cloudburst causes major damage in 5 places in Kullu-Dharamshala
Earlier on 24 June, cloudburst occurred at 4 places in Kullu and also in Khaniyara of Dharamshala. 2 people died in Kullu and 2 people are still missing. On the other hand, after the cloudburst in Khaniyara, 7 workers working in the power project have died, while 1 is still missing.
