Himachal Pradesh: Cancer patients get 42 medicines for free; treatment also

Shimla: The Himachal government will now provide free medicines to cancer patients. Also, the treatment of the patients will be completely free. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement while presiding over the first meeting of the State Advisory Board on Cancer and Palliative Care Program. Himachal Pradesh has come second in the country in cancer cases. This is a matter of concern, and given this, this decision has been taken to provide relief to cancer patients. He said that this facility will be provided in various government hospitals. Cancer patients will get 42 medicines free of charge for their treatment in government hospitals.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is giving top priority to public welfare, and providing better health facilities is an important part of it.

He said the state government is setting up cancer daycare centers in a phased manner. In the first phase, cancer daycare centers were set up in 13 hospitals.

In its second phase, these centers will be set up in 27 high-load civil hospitals and community health centers, and in the third phase, daycare centers will be set up in 28 institutions.He said that world-class technology will be used in the Cancer Care Center of Excellence to be set up by the state government in Hamirpur. A special department of nuclear medicine will be set up here, in which a large-capacity nuclear lab and cyclotron will also be made available. The Chief Minister said that the facility of bone marrow transplantation will also be started in Atal Super Specialty Institute Chamiyana. A population-based cancer registry will be started in the state. Under this, the cases and several cancers will be studied. He said that a pilot project will be started in one district for screening cancer cases in people.

Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Mission Director of NHM Priyanka Verma, Cancer Specialist Prof. GK Rath, Dr. Dinesh Pandakar, Dr. CM Tripathi, Director Medical Education Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Director Health Dr Gopal Bairi, and senior officers were present in the meeting.
