Children will not come to school in bad weather, classes to go online: Himachal government

In Himachal Pradesh, children will not come to school during bad weather during the monsoon season. Teachers will have to come to schools and teach online. Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar said in a letter that the District Deputy Commissioners were instructed to decide to close the school during heavy rains.

The Education Secretary has clarified that the Deputy Commissioners have the right to close the school under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 due to adverse weather conditions, but the teaching and non-teaching staff will still have to go to school and continue their duty.

Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar said that the safety of the students remains the top priority during bad weather. In such a situation, they have been exempted from physical attendance. The staff will have to use these closed days productively.

Teachers will have to complete pending mid-day meal records, lesson plans, formative and summary assessments, any pending School Management Committee (SMC) work and assignments related to holistic education and diet during this period. Online classes will have to be conducted from the school premises. Data will also have to be updated on PMIS and the U Dice portal.

Rainfall from June 29 to July 1 in Mandi district has damaged more than 84 school buildings. The reports of damage from most of the education blocks have not yet reached the department. Therefore, this figure of damaged school buildings is expected to increase. 81 primary schools of the district have suffered a loss of Rs 2.26 crore.

So far, reports of damage to only three school buildings have been received in the office of the Deputy Director of Higher Education. The loss in this is Rs 14 lakh. Buildings in educational institutions coming under the education block Bagsyad, have been damaged due to heavy rains and landslides. The building of Government Primary School Surah has been completely destroyed.

This has caused a loss of about 20 lakhs. One of the two blocks of Sumna School has been damaged. The second block is filled with debris. This has caused a loss of 10 lakhs. The security wall of the school building in Daran School has completely collapsed. There has been a loss of three lakhs. There was a loss of Rs 2 lakh due to the collapse of the security wall of the Keyolidhar building.
