Himachal: Govt to start Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programs in new academic session

With the aim of providing employment-oriented education to the youth in Himachal, the government is preparing to start the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Program (AEDP) in all universities and colleges in the new academic session.

Under this, five new courses will be started in universities and colleges. Courses will be started in government, non-government universities and colleges under the National Initiative for Skill Integrated Education. In a workshop chaired by Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar at the State Secretariat on Friday, a presentation was given on the facilities and benefits of these courses to young students in getting employment.

In the presentation, representatives of the Center for Research in Schemes and Policies (CRISP) gave information about AEDP and sought suggestions for starting the course in universities and colleges.

It was decided to call a meeting soon regarding starting the courses. Representatives of about 24 government and private colleges including Himachal Pradesh University and Sardar Patel University Mandi were present in the meeting. The Education Secretary said that the course will be started from the next session itself: Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar told the representatives of CRISP that the AEDP program will definitely be adopted.

Courses will be started in Himachal in the academic session 2025-26. Courses will be started in colleges which have the necessary and infrastructural facilities. This initiative is being taken to fulfill the government’s commitment to provide employment-based education to the youth. The state government will start courses according to the employment market in collaboration with CRISP.

An MoU has also been signed between the Education Department and the institution to promote employment-based courses in Himachal Pradesh.
