8 missing after cloudburst in Himachal; Rescue efforts to continue

Dharamshala, June 26: 8 people who went missing due to a cloudburst in Kullu and Dharamshala of Himachal Pradesh on June 24 are still missing. These people were swept away in the floods that occurred after the cloudburst. Rescue operations will continue for the third consecutive day to search for them.

According to the administration, with the passage of time, the chances of their survival are diminishing. According to the administration, 3 people from Kullu and 5 from Dharamshala are missing.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu said that 15 houses, including 2 national highways, have been damaged due to heavy rains. Relief and rescue work is going on. He has appealed to tourists and local people not to go near rivers and streams.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is no hope of relief from rain in the state till June 30. Especially, on June 29, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rain in Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Kangra districts.

 

Where did the cloudburst cause damage…

Kullu: Cloudburst at 4 places, shops and houses damaged, vehicles washed away, 3 people missing

Cloudburst occurred at 4 places in Kullu on Wednesday. These include Jiva Nala (Sainj), Shilagarh (Garhsa) Valley, Stro Gallery (Manali) and Horangarh (Banjar). Heavy rain occurred within a few minutes after the cloudburst. This suddenly increased the water level of rivers and streams. Because of this, people did not get a chance to recover.

Due to which 3 people, Nand Lal, his daughter Murti Devi and Yan Dasi of Raila village, are missing in Bihali village. Kullu DC Torul S Ravish said that 4 shops in Manali and 5 houses in Horangadh have been damaged. 11 cows were also swept away in the flash flood in Horangadh. More than 8 vehicles were swept away in the strong flow of the drain in different areas. A school, a Patwar circle, a cowshed, 4 houses, an electricity project and more than 10 small bridges have also been damaged in the rain.

Dharamsala: Bodies of 5 labourers found, 5 still missing, number may rise

5 people are still missing from Manuni drain of Khaniyara in Dharamsala in Kangra district. According to Lovely from Chamba, who was rescued alive, he is working in Indira Priyadarshini Hydral Project Sokni Da Kot Project. At the time the shed was washed away in the drain, 13 labourers were having lunch in the shed. He himself heard the sound in the drain and ran towards the forest and saved his life. 2 bodies were recovered from here on Wednesday evening and 3 bodies on Thursday. Apart from these 5 bodies, one labourer has been rescued from here.

According to Lovely, the number of missing workers could be 7. However, the government is saying that 5 people are missing. Out of the bodies found here, 4 have been identified. These include Chain Singh (20) resident of village Kumari Bhalla Doda (Jammu-Kashmir), Aditya Thakur resident of village Rakh (Chamba), Chandan resident of Sohanpur (UP) and Pradeep Verma resident of Sohanpur (UP).
