Heavy rains have been occurring in many areas of Himachal since last night. 145.4 mm of rain was recorded in Palampur of Kangra. Jogindernagar of Mandi received 113.0, Nahan 94.0, Baijnath 85.0, Paonta Sahib 58.4 and Kasauli 22.0 mm of rain.
The water level of the Himachal Pradesh Heavy rain alert visibility dropped in Shimla Markanda river has increased significantly after heavy rain at night in Kala Amb of Sirmaur district. Shimla also received heavy rain for some time at 9:45 am. Due to fog, visibility in Shimla decreased to 25 meters in the morning.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of very heavy rain in 7 districts of the state today, while heavy rain has been forecast in 3 districts. This monsoon rain can cause devastation. Tourists and local people have been advised to stay away from rivers and streams. They have also been asked not to go to landslide prone areas.
IMD has issued an orange alert in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Sirmaur, Solan and Una districts. Very heavy rain is likely at one or two places in these districts today. Heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts.
Advisory to tourists and locals
IMD has issued an advisory to local people including tourists not to go to rivers, streams and landslide prone areas. The water level in rivers and streams may suddenly rise after heavy rains. Similarly, landslides on the mountains can also cause devastation.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain is expected to continue in the mountains for the next four days. But from tomorrow the Western Disturbance will weaken a bit.
