Rain alert in 3 districts of Himachal today: Temperature drops by 4 degrees; 184 roads still closed

Shimla, July 12: In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain for three districts today (12 July). The IMD has forecast that light to moderate rain may occur in these districts. However, late last night, there was heavy rain at many places including Sujanpur in Hamirpur.

The weather department had predicted heavy rains in Bilaspur, Solan, Hamirpur, Kangra, Shimla, Mandi at night. Apart from this, the weather is clear today in many places including Kangra, Barsar.

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rain in most areas from July 14 to 17. Some places may receive heavy rainfall once or twice a day. According to IMD, there will be a change in temperature as well. The maximum temperature may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next 3-4 days. There will be no significant change in the minimum temperature for the next 4-5 days.

In the current monsoon season, from June 1 to July 11, Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall of 573.8 mm. Kangra received 459 mm and Sirmaur received 467.2 mm rainfall. Lahaul-Spiti recorded the lowest rainfall of 28.6 mm. Kinnaur recorded 53.4 mm rainfall. Overall, 27 percent more rainfall has been recorded in the entire state so far.

184 roads are still closed in Himachal

In Himachal Pradesh, 184 roads and 111 electricity transformers have been shut down due to which more than 200 villages are forced to live in darkness for the last one and a half week. Due to heavy rains, more than 791 drinking water schemes are still affected due to floods and heavy rains. This has disrupted the water supply. At many places, the pump houses used to lift water have been washed away.

92 people died, 33 missing in monsoon

So far 92 people have lost their lives in the rains in the state. Out of these 24 people have lost their lives due to floods, cloudburst and landslides. 33 people are missing. In Mandi district alone 15 people died and 27 people are missing due to cloudburst on the night of 30th June.

The estimate of loss crossed 1000 crores

According to the State Disaster Management, private and government property worth more than Rs 1157 crore has been destroyed due to heavy rains. 1198 houses have been damaged in Mandi alone. Out of these, 500 houses have been completely destroyed. 203 Gaushalas and 731 cattle sheds have also collapsed due to flash floods.
