Kalka-Shimla toy train to get panoramic upgrade: Equipped with bigger windows and CCTV, likely to start in winter

Kalka, July 14: There is good news about the panoramic coach running on the Kalka-Shimla rail section. The operation of these coaches equipped with modern facilities will start soon.

Some technical flaws were found during the first trial, for which the coach has been sent back to Kapurthala Coach Factory for rectification.

At present, the factory experts are busy in removing these defects. Railway officials of Ambala division said that as soon as the repair work is completed, these coaches will be ready to run on the track again.

The Kalka-Shimla Toy Train, also known as the “Heritage Toy Train”, is a famous narrow-gauge railway in India that runs from Kalka to Shimla. It covers a distance of 96 km, passing through 103 tunnels and 800 bridges and stops at 20 stations. The train, which started in 1903, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.

Problems so far

According to the information, the train has been tested several times. Sometimes there were problems while the train was climbing the height and sometimes with the passenger facilities in the coach. Therefore, this time every flaw has been checked very carefully and sequentially, so that the test is successful and then the operation of the new coach can start as soon as the green signal is received from the railway.

The team of Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala has designed the panoramic coach as per passenger convenience so that they can observe the greenery of the World Heritage Railway section. Large windows have been installed in the panoramic coach. This will allow the passengers to see the outside view clearly and they will be able to enjoy the natural beauty during the journey. Apart from this, CCTV cameras, fire alarm and other security equipment have also been installed in the coach.

Shortage removed, operation will start soon

Senior DCM Ambala Division Naveen Kumar Jha said that the coach was sent to the coach factory for rectification of the deficiencies found in it, now almost all those deficiencies have been removed. It will be made operational after conducting one more final trial.

If sources are to be believed, these new Vistadome coaches can be started this winter season. Passengers can enjoy snowfall in winter on this route. According to sources, the railways are also preparing for this. Since the demand on this route increases a lot in winter. In view of this, it can be started after October.
