The state’s first museum is being built in the capital by Meteorological Center Shimla. It will be built on the upper floor of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) building located near Scandal Point.
Here the history of the Meteorological Department will be told through a photo gallery. It will show how the India Meteorological Department was established in 1875. How was the weather checked in those times? It will also be opened for tourists and local people.
In this, the work of the department’s first meteorological correspondent Henry Francis Blanford and the second correspondent Ruchi Ram Sahni and other senior correspondents of the department and the memories related to them will be told.
How is the weather checked in the meteorological department, A model of that will also be prepared. Director of Meteorological Center, Shimla, Surendra Paul said that the place where the museum will be built, there used to be the office of India Meteorological Department from 1905 to 1906. From 1906 to 1928, he remained in the CTO of Shimla.
Weather reports were prepared daily in the office of the printing press located in Kachchi Valley. After 1928 it was shifted to Pune and finally to New Delhi. Now a photo gallery is being made in Shimla as a souvenir, where interesting information will be available.
Automatic weather system will show weather conditions every 15 minutes
Apart from the photo gallery, an automatic weather system will also be installed in this museum to be built by the department.
It will keep telling the weather condition of the surrounding areas including Mall Road every 15 minutes. This will help in taking appropriate steps in time in adverse weather conditions.
27 automatic weather systems have been installed across the state. It has also been installed in the CPRI office near Baimloi, Shimla. Automatic weather systems will alert meteorologists about rainfall, storms or severe weather, allowing safety measures to be taken in advance.
