Rajasthan tourist slips to death while taking selfie, falls into Chandra river in Lahaul-Spiti

Lahaul Spiti: A 28-year-old tourist from Rajasthan died after slipping in Chandra river. The district police recovered the body with the help of local people. The body will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary has advised tourists to travel safely.

On Tuesday, the district police received information that a person slipped and fell into the river while taking a selfie near Chandra river in Phuman Nala. On this information, the in-charge of police post Koksar and his team were immediately sent to the spot. The district police team and the local rescue team continued the search and rescue operation till late night, but due to darkness, no clue of the missing person could be found.

On Wednesday, a joint team was formed under the chairmanship of Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar. This team included District Police’s QRT, Atal Tunnel Police Team, NDRF, Local Rescue Team, Sisu Rescue Team, Mountaineering Manali Rescue Team, Rafting Team and Fire Team and sent to the spot after giving necessary instructions. All the above 8 teams started the search operation by going to the spot from 8 am. Yesterday when the rescue operation was conducted, our team and other rescue teams conducted the rescue operation at a temperature of minus 19 degrees Celsius and today morning at a temperature of minus 13 degrees.

After a lot of searching, at 10.30 am, the missing person Nikhil Kumar Vothra, son of Shri Dinesh Vothra, resident of Jain Nyoti Nohra Ki Gali, District Barmer, Rajasthan, age 28 years, was rescued from Chandra River at a distance of about 500 meters from the spot in a dead state. Further action is being taken by the in-charge Koksar outpost. The postmortem of the deceased will be conducted at RH Keylong and the deceased will be handed over to his family members.
