SMC teachers on strike before board exams in Himachal: Demands permanent appointment

Shimla: SMC teachers have gone on indefinite strike before the board exams to be held in March in Himachal Pradesh. The teachers sitting on the protest at Chaura Maidan in Shimla said that assurances will no longer work. The 2400 SMC teachers who have been demanding regularization for the last 12 years in the state say that their patience has broken.

SMC Teachers’ Union spokesperson Nirmal Thakur said that about 200 schools in remote areas are running with the help of SMC teachers. According to the Teachers’ Union, 10 thousand posts of teachers are vacant in the state. The union had already given an ultimatum to the government. The spokesperson said that no more time can be wasted in paperwork.

Teachers will return from the strike only after the timely departmental notification is issued. Himachal Pradesh School Education Board examinations are to begin from 4 March.
