IGMC Shimla closes OPD as 8 departments move to super speciality hospital

Shimla: From today, patients will not get treatment facilities in OPD at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, i.e., IGMC, located in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The state government and the health department have shifted the OPD of eight departments to the Atal Super Specialty Medical Institute built in Chamiyana for 262 crores. Patients will not be treated in these eight departments on Monday. Patients will have to go to Chamiyana for treatment.

Dr Sudhir Sharma, the senior doctor of Super Specialty Hospital Chamiyana, said that the OPD of eight departments, including cardiology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology, plastic surgery, and endocrinology, has been shifted from IGMC. He said that from today all patients will get treatment in OPD on the lines of IGMC.

The state government and the health department have shifted the OPD services from IGMC to Chamiyana, but reaching there is no less than a challenge for the patients. On one hand, there is no proper public transport facility for the Super Specialty Medical Institute Chamiyana, on the other hand, the condition of the road leading to the hospital is very bad. Although the management has claimed that the condition of the road leading to the hospital is better than before, some routes of HRTC are still running, but talks are being held with HRTC to run additional buses so that the patients do not face any inconvenience in commuting.
