Kolkata: The authorities of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata received a hoax bomb threat mail on Thursday, following which, there was panic within the airport premises for a brief period. A thorough search was launched at the airport premises by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel immediately after receiving the mail. As per the latest information available, no suspicious objects have been detected by the CISF personnel so far.
Sources aware of the development said that a threatening email was sent to the airport authorities this afternoon where it was claimed that bombs were stocked at some places inside the airport premises.
As soon as the email was received, the authorities alerted the CISF jawans who are in-charge of the security arrangement at the airport.
Accordingly, the CISF personnel began a thorough search operation within the airport premises even though it was initially believed that some false information might have been sent. However, the authorities were unwilling to take any risk in terms of security and launched a search.
Sources said that efforts are also being made to identify the person or persons responsible for the hoax bomb threat email. The help of cyber experts has also been sought to find the source of the threatening email sent to the airport.
Last February, there were two hoax bomb scares at Kolkata airport on the same day. A threatening note written in lipstick was left in the toilet of a flight.
A note in the toilet of another flight also stated that there was a bomb on the plane. However, in both cases, the threats proved to be hoax ones.
Again, in February this year, a number of post offices and adjoining passport offices in various districts of West Bengal got bomb threat emails during office hours, prompting evacuation of the premises. However, in those cases also nothing was found after extensive search operations were conducted by the police and bomb disposal squads
