Five members of the same family lost their lives in a horrific road accident near Lahad on the Bharmour-Pathankot National Highway in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district. The family was returning home after getting their three-month-old daughter treated at PGI Chandigarh when their Alto car lost control and plunged into a deep gorge late Monday night.
Upon receiving news of the accident, police, administrative officials, and rescue teams rushed to the scene. The rescue operation proved challenging due to the darkness and the difficult terrain. After considerable effort, all the bodies were retrieved from the gorge.
Dalhousie SDM Anil Bhardwaj confirmed that all five victims belonged to the same family. A wave of grief swept through the entire region following the incident. Preliminary reports indicate that it was raining continuously and there was heavy fog in the area at the time of the accident. It is suspected that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to poor visibility and slippery road conditions, although the exact cause will be confirmed only after the police investigation is complete.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The administration has urged people to exercise extra caution while traveling on hilly roads during the monsoon season.
