Hyderabad: Job aspirants on Monday staged a flash protest at Indira Park crossroads in Hyderabad, demanding that the Telangana government fill 20,000 vacancies in the police department.
The protesters, including candidates preparing for police constable and sub-inspector posts, alleged that the government had failed to fulfil its promise by issuing recruitment notifications for only around 7,000 vacancies.
Aspirants block road, raise slogans
Holding placards and raising slogans, members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of unemployed youth staged a road blockade, briefly affecting traffic movement in the area.
The protesters claimed that around 10 lakh aspirants across Telangana had been waiting for several years for notifications related to 20,000 police jobs.
They expressed disappointment over the recent recruitment drive and demanded that the government announce vacancies in other departments as well, including mega DSC and Group I, II, III and IV posts.
Youth warn of bigger protests
The protesters warned that they would intensify their agitation and organise large-scale demonstrations outside the state Secretariat and other locations if their demands were not addressed.
They alleged that while the government was responding to student protests in other states, the concerns of unemployed youth in Telangana were being ignored.
The aspirants also demanded an increase in the upper age limit for police recruitment, claiming that delays in issuing notifications had caused many candidates to become ineligible due to age restrictions.
Telangana police recruitment drive
The protesters reminded Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of his earlier promise to fill 20,000 police vacancies.
Last week, unemployed youth also announced the formation of the Telangana Endrin Party (TEP) to raise employment-related issues. Under the slogan “Job is our right, justice is our goal”, they have been demanding a job calendar and implementation of the promise of providing two lakh jobs made during the 2023 Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board on July 29 issued four notifications for direct recruitment to 7,437 posts across various departments, including Police, Special Protection Force, Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency & Civil Defence, and Prisons & Correctional Services.
