New Delhi: Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will face off in a Group A fixture of the Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday, rekindling one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries.
Contrasting Journeys Since World Cup
Pakistan enter the clash after a turbulent phase marked by inconsistency, brittle batting, and a bowling unit that has lost its old sharpness. India, in contrast, have grown into a well-rounded force, with in-form batters and a bowling attack rated among the world’s best, making them favourites for the encounter.
Political Backdrop and Government Nod
The build-up has been tempered by anger following the Pahalgam terror attack, with several voices questioning whether the match should proceed. However, the Indian government cleared the fixture, reaffirming that India will only play Pakistan in international and multilateral events, not bilateral series.
Lukewarm Response to Ticket Sales
Interestingly, despite the rivalry’s reputation, the usual frenzy appears subdued this time. Tickets for the high-voltage clash were still available online as of Saturday, a rarity for an Indo-Pak showdown.
