India Condemns Dhaka Minority Violence, Backs Free Polls

New Delhi: India on Friday strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence against minority communities in Dhaka, expressing deep concern over the safety and security of vulnerable groups in neighboring Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said New Delhi is closely monitoring the situation and has urged Bangladeshi authorities to take necessary steps to restore peace and uphold the rule of law.

Call for Protection of Minority Rights

In its official statement, India emphasized the importance of protecting the rights, dignity, and security of minorities, underlining that such incidents undermine social harmony and democratic values. New Delhi reiterated that the well-being of minorities remains a key concern in bilateral discussions with Bangladesh.

Support for Democratic Process

India also reaffirmed its support for free, fair, and inclusive elections in Bangladesh, stressing that a transparent democratic process is essential for long-term stability in the country. The statement highlighted India’s consistent position of backing democratic institutions and constitutional processes in its neighborhood.

Bilateral Relations in Focus

Bangladesh is one of India’s closest neighbors and an important strategic partner. Both countries share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties. India noted that maintaining peace and democratic stability in Bangladesh is vital not only for its citizens but also for regional security and cooperation in South Asia.

India’s Diplomatic Stand

The MEA reiterated that India believes in non-interference while supporting democratic values, adding that New Delhi hopes Bangladesh will address the situation through lawful and inclusive measures. India also stressed that violence has no place in democratic societies and urged restraint from all sides.
