India crush Pakistan by 88 Runs in controversial Women’s World Cup match

Colombo: India extended their dominance over arch-rivals Pakistan in women’s cricket with a commanding 88-run victory in their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 group-stage clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. The win, built on a disciplined all-round performance, has strengthened India’s position in the tournament standings.

Batting first, India posted a total of 247 all out in 50 overs, recovering from early setbacks through steady contributions from the middle order. Richa Ghosh anchored the innings with a composed 35, while Jemimah Rodrigues added 32 to stabilize the innings after a shaky start. Lower-order cameos pushed India past the 240 mark on a surface that offered movement for seamers and grip for spinners.

Pakistan’s chase never gained momentum as India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings. The Pakistani batters struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bundled out for 159 in 42 overs. India’s spin trio extracted maximum assistance from the slow surface, while the pacers struck early to derail Pakistan’s top order.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s tactical field placements and sharp bowling changes proved decisive as India sealed their third consecutive win over Pakistan in World Cup encounters.

The result serves as a major confidence boost for India, who showcased collective strength across departments. As the tournament progresses, the performance underscores India’s credentials as one of the leading contenders for the title.
