Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as the largest trade deal in India’s history, calling it a major milestone for the country’s economic growth and global trade presence.
‘Strong Message to the World’
PM Modi said the agreement sends a strong signal that India is open, confident and ready to engage with the world on fair and mutually beneficial terms. He stressed that the deal reflects India’s growing economic strength and strategic importance.
Boost to Trade, Jobs and Investments
The India-EU FTA is expected to significantly enhance bilateral trade, promote exports, attract foreign investment and generate employment across key sectors including manufacturing, technology, pharmaceuticals, textiles and green energy.
Strengthening Strategic Partnership
The Prime Minister highlighted that the agreement goes beyond trade, strengthening India-EU ties in areas such as supply chains, innovation, climate action and digital cooperation. He termed the EU a “natural partner” in India’s development journey.
Long-Term Economic Impact
Experts believe the FTA will improve market access for Indian businesses in Europe while ensuring better opportunities for EU companies in India, creating a win-win situation and reinforcing India’s position as a global economic powerhouse.
