Era changes, of course. Britain, the country under whose rule India once lived for nearly a century and a half, and whose freedom fighters achieved independence through an inspiring struggle, is now receiving a visit from that same country, with its Prime Minister Keir Starmer leading a 125-member delegation.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi and the British Prime Minister released Vision 2035. The British Prime Minister expressed his desire to be a partner in India’s success. Previous statements by the British trade delegation and the British Prime Minister are very encouraging.
At a time when the world’s number one economic superpower, the United States, is attempting to disrupt India’s development with a tariff war, the British Prime Minister’s visit to India will boost India’s growth. The British Prime Minister described it as a launch pad for promoting bilateral trade and economic development.
He stated that India is poised to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027. The initiation of new trade relations and a free trade system with it can be a testament to progress and development for both countries. Remember, the next phase of the free trade agreement, the foundation of which Prime Minister Modi laid in England two and a half months ago, is unfolding before us.
At a time when the United States is attempting to close our traditional trade doors, if we achieve new heights through the diversification of foreign trade, it will be a positive opportunity for India.
Emphasis is being placed on the fact that the next step in the mutual trade agreement will reduce the tax burden on both buyers and sellers. When the markets for buying and selling become cheaper, a new business environment will emerge in both countries. Starmer stated that if Britain expands trade with India, it will provide a new option for stability and employment.
This free trade agreement will increase access to markets and reduce tariffs. It is also estimated that bilateral trade between India and England will double by 2030. During his visit to London in July, Prime Minister Modi sealed this trade negotiation. Now, the British Prime Minister’s visit aims to advance this agreement.
It is true that business growth in Britain has slowed. Recession has arisen. Inflation and unemployment have caused problems. But now, with this agreement, doors will open for British business.
The Indian economy is also progressing. The doors of both countries will open to each other. The British Prime Minister is accompanied by top offcials from major companies such as Rolls-Royce, the London Stock Exchange, and British Airways in this delegation. The British Commerce Minister stated that they intend to expand their ties with India.
He said that this agreement is excellent because British businesses will gain access to India’s vast and ever-growing market. “We have come here in search of growth, employment, and prosperity.” India will also benefit from this, as Britain’s technological know-how and the quality of its products will now reach India. India’s average tariff on British products will be reduced from 15% to 3%, making it easier for British companies to access the Indian market.
Along with protecting industry and trade, bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence, telecommunications, and defense technology will usher in a new era. National security will also be strengthened to safeguard this era. It is expected that the value of these developments will reach 1 trillion pounds by 2030.
This is a dream that not only India but all Third World countries should dream of: instead of putting all their eggs in one basket with the United States, why not diversify trade relations, as India and Britain are doing. India-UK Knock on the Door of Progress
