New Delhi: The Indian Army on Friday rejected claims on social media that the Army had taken action against the “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP) and cracked down on youth. The Army termed these claims as fake and said that a propaganda account linked to Pakistan used an old photo to malign the image of the defense forces.
In a fact check released on social media, the Indian Army clarified that the account in question had used an old photo of security personnel taking action during a student protest at Jamia Millia Islamia University in South Delhi.
The Army said that a propaganda account linked to Pakistan falsely claimed that the Indian Army took action against the “Cockroach Janata Party” on the morning of October 23, injuring seven youth and killing two. The account also falsely claimed that the Indian Army had taken a stance against Gen Z.
Video of the October 17th incident at Jamia was used
According to the Indian Army, the viral video actually depicts the actions of security personnel during the ongoing hunger strike at Jamia Millia Islamia University on October 17th, demanding the restoration of Union Territory status.
The Army clarified that no deaths or injuries were reported in that incident. The Army alleged that an attempt was made to tarnish the image of the defense forces by spreading misinformation through old videos and photographs.
Committee formed to draft the constitution of the Students’ Union at Jamia
Meanwhile, Jamia Millia Islamia University has issued a notification forming a committee to draft the constitution of the Students’ Union. According to an official from the university’s main public relations department, this step has been taken under Articles 23(J) and 23(K) of the Jamia Millia Islamia Act, 1988.
The committee will consider the circumstances leading to the dissolution of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU) in 2006, various decisions of competent courts in this regard, and the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee of 2007.
The Students’ Union was dissolved in 2006
According to a university statement, this matter related to the Students’ Union requires a comprehensive review, as the university’s last Students’ Union was dissolved in 2006.
In the nearly two decades since, many significant developments have taken place. Consequently, it is necessary to review this matter in light of the existing legal and institutional framework. The university committee will draft the Students’ Union’s constitution after considering these aspects.
