The body of a 22-year-old Indian student who went missing in Ufa, Russia, for 19 days was recovered from a dam on Thursday, November 6. Ajit Singh Chaudhary, originally from Kafanwara village in Laxmangarh, Alwar, Rajasthan (Rajasthan News). He had gone to Russia in 2023 to pursue his MBBS degree and was admitted to the Bashkir State Medical University.

The student went missing on October 19

Ajit went missing in Ufa, Russia, on October 19 this year. Sources reported that the student left his hostel around 11 am, stating that he was going to buy milk, but he never returned. Nitin Sangwan, president of Alwar Saras Dairy, said that Ajit’s body was found in a dam adjacent to the White River.

Sources said the Indian embassy in Russia has not yet issued a statement, but informed Chaudhary’s family about the death on Thursday. Former Union minister and Congress leader Jitendra Singh Alwar said Ajit’s clothes, mobile phone and shoes were found on the river bank 19 days ago.

He suspected that “something untoward had happened to the boy (Ajit) under suspicious circumstances.”

“Ajit from Kafanwara village was sent to Russia by his family with high hopes and hard-earned money to pursue medical studies. Today’s news of Ajit’s body being found in the river is very shocking. This is a very sad moment for the Alwar family; under suspicious circumstances, we have lost a talented young son,” he said in a post on social media platform X on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Medical Students Wing of the All India Medical Students Association (HQ), the overseas wing of the All India Medical Students Association, has also contacted External Affairs Minister Jaishankar regarding the matter. The association said, “His friends who studied in the same university have confirmed the identity of the body.”
