Georgia: A 51-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested in the US state of Georgia for allegedly killing his wife and three relatives in a shooting that followed a domestic argument.
Incident Occurred Near Atlanta
The shooting took place early Friday morning at a house on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville, a city located near Atlanta, police said.
Who Is Vijay Kumar?
The accused, identified as Vijay Kumar (51), allegedly opened fire after an argument with his wife, Meemu Dogra (43).
Four Family Members Killed
The victims include Kumar’s wife Meemu Dogra, along with relatives Gourav Cumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38), all of whom died from apparent gunshot wounds.
Children Escape by Hiding in Closet
Three children aged 12, 10 and 7 were inside the house at the time of the shooting. Police said the children survived by hiding in a closet and were unharmed.
12-Year-Old Dialled 911
Authorities said Kumar’s 12-year-old child called 911 after the situation escalated, alerting police to the shooting.
Suspect Arrested Nearby
Police located Vijay Kumar a short distance from the scene and arrested him. Officials confirmed that there are no other suspects involved.

Kumar has been charged with:

Indian Consulate Issues Statement
The Indian Consulate in Atlanta confirmed that one of the victims was an Indian citizen and said it is extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family.

“We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute… The alleged shooter has been arrested,” the mission said in a post on X.
Argument Began Earlier in Atlanta
Police said the argument started at Kumar’s home in Atlanta before the family travelled to the Lawrenceville residence where the shooting occurred.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities believe the motive is related to a domestic issue. However, the exact cause of the dispute and how it escalated into violence is still under investigation.
