Maldives: Veteran Indian rally driver Hari Singh, one of the most successful drivers in Indian motorsport, is reported missing after an accident in the Maldives. Hari Singh is the nephew of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar president Simranjit Singh Mann. The accident reportedly occurred late Thursday night, March 19, 2026, when a speedboat carrying Hari and Raymond MD Gautam Singhania capsized in the sea near Felidhoo Island.
Hari Singh and Gautam Singhania were among seven people killed when a speedboat carrying tourists capsized. Singhania was injured in the boat capsize and was reportedly brought back to Mumbai after a successful rescue. The search for Hari Singh and the others is ongoing. According to reports, the 2nd Squadron of the Male Area Command Coast Guard of the Maldives National Defense Force is conducting the search operation.
According to them, the incident occurred approximately 2 nautical miles southwest of Keodhu. The exact cause of the accident is also under investigation. Chandigarh-based Hari Singh, known as the “Gypsy King,” began his motorsport journey in the Himalayan Car Rally in 1990. Forging his own path, he built a career in rallying throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
He is registered as a five-time Indian Rally Champion, supported by the JK Tyre Rally Team on a Maruti Gypsy. Hari Singh represented India in various international events, including the first Asia Zone Rally Championship, the ASEAN Rally, and the SAARC Rally.
He later served in coaching and operational roles at JK Tire Motorsport and Mercedes-Benz India. He has been associated with JK Tire for several decades.
