Hobart: The Indian women’s cricket team gave a special tribute to Australia captain Alyssa Healy by forming a guard of honour before her final ODI appearance at the Bellerive Oval on Sunday.
As Healy walked out to bat in the third ODI against India, the Women in Blue lined up to applaud the legendary wicketkeeper-batter in her farewell 50-over international match.
Healy scores 158 in final ODI
The retiring Australian skipper made her last ODI memorable, smashing a brilliant 158 off 98 balls. She dominated the Indian bowling attack before being dismissed by India spinner Sneh Rana in the 37th over.
Her knock stood out as a fitting farewell performance in Australian colours.
BCCI Women shares tribute moment
Board of Control for Cricket in India Women shared pictures of the guard of honour on X. In the photos, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was seen shaking hands with Healy as she walked towards the pitch.
“Team India formed a guard of honour before the start of play today for Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who is playing her final ODI match,” BCCI Women wrote on X.
A glittering 16-year career
In January this year, Healy announced that she would retire from international cricket after the home series against India. The multi-format tour includes three ODIs, three T20Is and a one-off Test.
The 35-year-old finishes her ODI career with 3,619 runs in 123 matches. She has also scored 3,054 runs in 162 T20Is and 489 runs in 10 Tests.
In December 2023, she was appointed Australia’s full-time captain, taking over from Meg Lanning.
Healy retires as the most successful wicketkeeper in women’s international cricket with 269 dismissals across formats — 24 in Tests, 119 in ODIs and 126 in T20Is.
