Over 30 School Children Fall Ill After Eating Mid-Day Meal in Indore, Condition Stable

Indore: More than 30 children fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal at a government school in Sinhana village under the Dharampur area of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district on Saturday, officials said.

The students were served kadhi-chawal under the mid-day meal scheme. Soon after eating the meal, several children complained of stomach pain, dizziness, headache, vomiting and fever.

19 Children Admitted to Hospital

According to preliminary information, 19 children have been admitted to Aurobindo Hospital in Indore, while four have been kept in the ICU as a precautionary measure.

More than 30 other affected children are also under medical observation.

A senior doctor at Aurobindo Hospital said none of the children were in critical condition.

“Four children have been kept in the ICU for close monitoring as a precautionary measure. Others have been kept under observation for six hours. Their condition is stable,” the doctor said.

Food Samples Sent for Testing

The simultaneous illness of several children after consuming the same meal has raised suspicion of food poisoning, although authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause.

After receiving information about the incident, school staff alerted the parents and district administration. The affected children were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.

A team from the Indore Health Department also reached the school and collected samples of the food served to the students.

A district administration official said the samples have been sent for laboratory testing and further action will be taken based on the reports.

Parents Rush to Hospital

The incident caused panic among parents, with many rushing to the hospital after learning that their children had fallen ill.

The affected students remain under medical supervision, and their health is being closely monitored. Authorities are awaiting the laboratory reports to determine whether contaminated food was responsible for the illness.
