Anurag Bhushan appointed as India's next Ambassador to Sweden

New Delhi: Anurag Bhushan, currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has been designated as India’s upcoming Ambassador to Sweden, the MEA announced.

Bhushan is an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1995 batch. The MEA indicated that he is expected to assume his new role soon.

The statement highlighted that India and Sweden maintain a longstanding partnership rooted in shared values, robust business and investment ties, and collaborations in research and development. Both nations are committed to addressing global issues related to peace, security, and development.

The India-Sweden relationship has grown significantly since 2014, marked by high-level engagements including 11 visits or interactions involving heads of state or government. These include visits during events like the UN General Assembly, Make in India summit, COP summits, and bilateral visits such as those of India’s President Pranab Mukherjee in 2015 and Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf in 2019.

In recent years, there have been over 25 ministerial-level engagements and one Prime Minister-level interaction between the two countries, notably during COP28, where they launched Leadit2.0 collaboratively. The relationship continues to deepen through ongoing political, economic, and multilateral cooperation.
