At least one killed, seven injured after small plane crashes in Brazil

Sao Paulo: At least one person has died and seven others were injured after a small plane crashed and exploded near a beach in Ubatuba, a tourist city in São Paulo, Brazil. The incident occurred as the pilot attempted to land at Ubatuba regional airport on January 10 but lost control, crossing the airport’s security fence.

The pilot was the sole fatality, while all four passengers—two adults and two children—were rescued safely. Additionally, three people on Cruzeiro Beach were injured due to the crash.

Rede Voa, the airport’s concessionaire, indicated that poor weather conditions, including rain and a wet runway, contributed to the accident. The Brazilian Air Force has dispatched technicians and experts from the Center for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents to investigate the cause.

This incident follows another tragic crash on December 24, 2024, when five people, including a child, died in a small plane crash in a residential area of São Paulo. In September, a separate crash in Amazonas state resulted in the deaths of 14 tourists heading on a fishing trip. The pilot in that case also encountered difficulties while trying to land.
