Trump’s shooter identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks

Thomas Matthew Crooks (20) has been identified as the person suspected of shooting former US President Donald Trump in an attempted assassination, the FBI said in a statement.

“The suspected shooter was Thomas Matthew Crooks (20) of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania,” said the FBI.

Crooks was killed on the spot by the security officials after he fired shots at the former US President, piercing through his ear, during a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania.

The FBI had earlier said that the shooting was being investigated as “an assassination attempt” on Trump.

The motive behind the assassination attempt, however, is yet to be revealed.

Trump, who is due to be anointed the Republican Party’s Presidential candidate, had a narrow escape on Saturday when shots aimed at him at a campaign rally grazed his right ear and killed two people at the event.

When the agents handled Trump and helped him stand up, blood was seen on Trump’s face and ear. During this, Trump clenched his fist and waved it in the air. After this, the secret agents took Trump off the stage and took him away in the car. The incident happened at 4 am on Sunday according to Indian time. Then it was 6:30 pm on Saturday evening in America.

Trump took to the social media platform ‘Truth Social’ to acknowledge the shooting incident that occurred at his election rally on Saturday. “I want to thank the United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the former President wrote.

He extended condolences to the families affected, emphasising, “Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured,” he said.

Trump himself told about the incident that he was shot in the upper part of his right ear. He posted on social media that I felt a sensation near the ear, which made me immediately realize that something was wrong. There was a lot of bleeding, so then I realized what was happening.

Trump said, “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.” Details about the shooter, who is confirmed deceased, remain limited at this time. Describing his own experience during the shooting, Trump revealed, “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.”

Describing his own experience during the shooting, Trump wrote, “Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening.” Ending on a patriotic note, Trump concluded, “GOD BLESS AMERICA!” Earlier, US Secret Service Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi tweeted: “Protective measures have been implemented, and the former President is secure.”
