Bangladesh Targets $1.1 Billion from ADB and World Bank by December

Dhaka: Bangladesh is set to receive $600 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and $500 million from the World Bank by December, according to Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder. He shared this information during a press conference on Tuesday, celebrating the interim government’s first 100 days in office, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Mozumder noted that the interim administration’s policies have been well-received by international donors, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. “The measures taken by our interim government have yielded positive results, surpassing our initial funding expectations. We successfully negotiated $600 million in loans from the ADB, which we anticipate receiving by December,” he stated.

He also mentioned the progress with the World Bank, which has agreed to provide $500 million in loan assistance during the same period. “Initially, these loans were set at $300 million and $250 million, but we managed to double those amounts through successful negotiations.”

Additionally, the government is pursuing further financial support from the IMF, having requested an extra $1 billion this year. Mozumder indicated that discussions will wrap up when the IMF team visits on December 4, expressing optimism about the results.
