Bangladesh government bans Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram and YouTube across the country

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s Sheikh Hasina Government restricts social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram and YouTube across the country. Sheikh Hasina Government impose ban social media networks on Friday.

Government officials told that onward social media platforms  restricted throughout Bangladesh. This follows previous shutdown of Facebook, WhatsApp, Insta from July 17 to July 31 which was implemented in response to Anti-Quota protests.


There are large scale Anti-Quota protests against Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh. The government feels that social media platforms are also playing an important role in this protest. Information is being exchanged between people through these. To stop this exchange, the government has banned all social media platforms like Tik-Tok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook etc. in the country

Impose ban on social media networks from August 2 and effectively restricted users from accessing any of the aforementioned social networking sites across Bangladesh. Interestingly, the decision came shortly after Turkey announced that it was banning Instagram after one of the country’s lawmakers called out the kind of information that was being shared on Instagram about the death of Hamas’ chief Ismail Haniyeh.
