EAM Jaishankar and UK Foreign Secretary meet in Rome

EAM S. Jaishankar met with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Rome on November 24, expressing appreciation for the “steady momentum” in the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This discussion occurred just before the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in which India was invited as a guest country. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation in technology, green energy, trade, and mobility, alongside addressing developments in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia.

This meeting follows a recent interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK PM Keir Starmer during the G-20 Summit, where they committed to strengthening their partnership. Modi announced the opening of two new Indian consulates in the UK, signifying a deepening relationship.

Jaishankar is in Rome for a three-day visit, which includes participating in the MED Mediterranean Dialogue organized by Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is expected to engage in discussions regarding regional and global issues during the G7 meeting in Fiuggi, focusing on the Indo-Pacific’s stability and other pressing international concerns. The G7’s agenda will particularly address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the broader Middle East situation, following recent conflicts.
