Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew a comparison between India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision and the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan in the US, coining the term “Make India Great Again” (MIGA). Sharing his thoughts on social media platform X, PM Modi emphasized that India and the US have formed a “MEGA” partnership aimed at fostering prosperity for both nations.
He posted: “President Trump often talks about MAGA. In India, we are working towards a Viksit Bharat, which in American context translates into MIGA. And together, India-USA have a MEGA partnership for prosperity!”
In another post, PM Modi underscored the significance of his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, calling it a crucial step in strengthening bilateral relations. “An excellent meeting with POTUS Donald Trump at the White House. Our talks will add significant momentum to the India-USA friendship,” he wrote.
Earlier, at a joint press conference, PM Modi highlighted the mutual goals of the two nations. He explained that while Americans are familiar with Trump’s MAGA motto, India is focused on achieving “Viksit Bharat 2047,” which he described as the Indian equivalent of MIGA. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between India and the US in strengthening oil and gas trade to ensure India’s energy security.
“People of America are well aware of President Trump’s MAGA. Similarly, the people of India are advancing with a clear focus on heritage and development towards the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. In American terms, it translates to MIGA. When America and India join hands, this MAGA plus MIGA results in a ‘mega partnership for prosperity,’ expanding the scale and scope of our ambitions,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister also announced that India and the US have set a target to boost bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030. Teams from both countries will soon work on finalizing a mutually beneficial trade agreement. He also highlighted the progress in joint development, production, and technology transfer, stating that cooperation between the two nations could shape a better world.
PM Modi’s visit came as one of the first by a world leader following President Trump’s inauguration.
