MEA urges restraint amid evolving situation in West Asia

India has urged all parties in West Asia to exercise restraint and prioritize the protection of civilians amid the deteriorating security situation in the region. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs advised Indian nationals to be cautious and to avoid non-essential travel to Iran.

The advisory emphasized that Indians currently living in Iran should remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran. “We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation in the region. Indian nationals are advised to refrain from all non-essential travel to Iran, and those residing there should stay alert and keep in touch with the Indian Embassy,” the MEA stated.

This advisory comes in the wake of ongoing regional instability triggered by Iran’s ballistic missile strike on Israel, which has led to retaliatory actions and increased military confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to a post on X by the Times of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have issued evacuation orders for residents in two dozen villages in southern Lebanon due to the escalating conflict. The IDF reported that approximately 50 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel, prompting the deployment of additional forces to support ground operations in the area.

The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv is also actively monitoring the situation and has issued its own safety advisory for Indian citizens in Israel, warning them to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay close to safety shelters as missile strikes from Iran continue to target Israeli civilians.

In a statement on X, the IDF noted that it has been collaborating closely with the US Armed Forces in defense efforts before, during, and after the Iranian attack, expressing gratitude for this cooperation and emphasizing its commitment to enhancing regional stability and military coordination. This military escalation follows the deaths of senior leaders from Hezbollah and Hamas in Israeli airstrikes, with Iran pledging to retaliate.
