Yemen’s Houthi group claims drone strikes on Israel

Sanaa, July 22:  Yemen’s Houthi armed group has claimed that it has carried out five drone strikes on “military and lifeline sites” in Israel.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sariya, speaking on the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, said the targets of the strikes included Ben Gurion Airport, a military site in Tel Aviv, the port of Eilat, Ramon Airport and a “proud site” in the Ashdod area.

Sariya said, “The operation was successful,” although he did not provide any evidence. He said the strikes were carried out in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza and in response to Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah port on Monday.

He also said that the Houthis would continue their attacks on Israel until “the attacks on Gaza stop and the blockade on the Palestinians is lifted.”

No immediate response from Israel

There was no immediate response from Israel to the Houthis’ claims.

The attacks came hours after Israel carried out airstrikes on the northwestern Yemeni port of Hodeidah.

Details of the Israeli airstrikes

According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), their operation targeted military infrastructure in the port of Hodeidah, including engineering equipment, fuel tanks, naval assault boats and other Houthi-related structures.

Residents told the Chinese news agency Xinhua that flames and smoke from the attacks could be seen from several kilometers away.

The Houthi administration has not yet provided any information about the damage or casualties caused during the attack.

The Houthi group, which controls large parts of northern Yemen, including Sanaa and Hodeidah, has been carrying out attacks against Israel since November 2023. They are carrying out these attacks as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
