He breathed his last at his residence in Casa Santa Marta, Vatican. According to Vatican news, he was ill for a long time. Yesterday, on the occasion of Easter, he appeared in front of the people after a long time.

Pope Francis was ill for a long time. After undergoing treatment in the hospital for about a month, the Pope returned to his residence Casa Santa Marta on March 24. On returning from the hospital, he blessed a large number of people gathered outside the hospital. People looked very happy after seeing the Pope in public and also cheered.

He was admitted in the hospital for more than a month
Pope Francis was admitted to the hospital on February 14. He had double pneumonia. He was under the supervision of doctors in the hospital. He was discharged after spending more than a month in the hospital. Sergio Alfieri, the head of surgery who takes care of the Pope, had said that he would continue to need medicines.

Part of the lung was removed in his youth
When Pope Francis was young, one of his lungs had to be removed due to infection. Due to this, he was facing respiratory diseases. In 2023 too, he had to be hospitalised due to a lung infection.

“Dear brothers and sisters, it is with profound sadness I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced on the Vatican’s TV channel.

“At 7:35 this morning the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father.”

Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, was the first pope from the Americas. He was elected pope on March 13, 2013, at age 76, surprising many Church watchers who had seen the Argentine cleric, known for his concern for the poor, as an outsider.
