Kathmandu [Nepal]: Demonstrators gathered outside the Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu on Saturday to protest against the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national. The attack, which took place on April 22, has sparked strong reactions both in India and internationally.
Members of the Indian community and diaspora previously held a similar protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in London, expressing deep sorrow and outrage over the loss of innocent lives.
Protesters in Kathmandu waved Indian flags, banners, and placards, condemning terrorism and calling for justice for the victims. They shouted slogans against Pakistan, accusing it of allegedly supporting and harboring terrorist groups responsible for attacks like the one in Pahalgam.
The demonstration remained peaceful but was filled with emotion, drawing participants from various age groups and backgrounds who united to show solidarity with the victims and their families.
In a significant diplomatic response, the Indian government announced on Friday that it would revoke all categories of visas issued to Pakistani nationals, effective April 27. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that this revocation excludes long-term, diplomatic, and official visas. Medical visas granted to Pakistani citizens will remain valid only until April 29.
“The Government of India has revoked all existing visas issued to Pakistani nationals, except for long-term, diplomatic, and official visas, effective from April 27, 2025. Medical visas for Pakistani nationals will be valid only until April 29, 2025,” the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
In light of this decision, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan conducted a video conference with the chief secretaries of all states, instructing them to implement the necessary measures. This policy adjustment aims to enhance border security and regulate the presence of Pakistani nationals in India following the deadly terrorist attack.
To further reinforce these efforts, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with the chief ministers of all states. He directed them to identify Pakistani nationals currently living in their regions and ensure their swift deportation, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
