Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaidul Hassan gives resign

Dhaka (Bangladesh): Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaidul Hassan has submitted his resignation letter to the law ministry decides to resign by Saturday evening. Along with Law ministry his resignation letter submitted to parliamentary affairs advisor Asif Nazrul.

In a video message Asif Nazrul said “The CJB has sent his resignation letter and now it will be forwarded to the President for further process.”

As Sheikh Hasina resigns from the post of Prime Minister, due to widespread protests in Bangladesh students now have demanded the resignation of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh (Obaidul Hassan) and all judges.

His decision came following a students’ protest on Saturday morning where he and judges of the Appellate Division were given an ultimatum to resign by 01 pm.

According to media reports on Saturday, the CJB said that he would resign from the post after the protesters gave him an ultimatum of one hour. In Bangladesh, thousands of protesters demanded the resignation of the Chief justice immediately.

Asif Mahmud, the adviser of the Youth and Sports Ministry of the Interim Government, too demanded the unconditional resignation of the Chief Justice.

As per reports, the chief justice had decided to resign after protesters issued an ultimatum, giving him 1 hour to tender his resignation. Protesters had gathered around the Supreme Court, calling for the CJB to step down immediately. The situation escalated, indicating that the Chief Justice may have fled the premises.

The new protests, come after a student-led uprising against government hiring rules resulted in Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus taking charge of a caretaker government.
