Sudan: 31 killed in airstrike on mosque

In an airstrike on a mosque in Wad Madani, Gezira State, Sudan, at least 31 people have been reported dead, according to a local non-governmental organization. The attack occurred on Sunday after evening prayers when warplanes targeted the Sheikh El Jeili mosque and nearby areas using explosive barrels, as stated by the Wad Madani resistance committee. They noted that 15 victims have been identified, with many more unidentified bodies still being tallied.

As of now, there has been no official response from any involved parties regarding the incident, reported by Xinhua news agency. The paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been in control of Gezira State since December 2023, following the withdrawal of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) from Wad Madani.

Sudan has been embroiled in a severe conflict between the SAF and RSF since mid-April 2023, leading to over 24,850 deaths, as documented by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project on October 14.
