Trump files libel lawsuit against several news companies

Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has filed a libel lawsuit against several news organizations, according to court documents. The suit targets two reporters from The Wall Street Journal, along with parent companies Dow Jones, News Corp, and media proprietor Rupert Murdoch.

The lawsuit was submitted in Miami, Florida, as reported by Xinhua news agency. Trump’s legal action follows The Wall Street Journal’s report about a birthday greeting he allegedly sent to convicted human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. The report claimed the greeting included a drawing that appeared to be sexually suggestive, depicting small arcs representing a woman’s breasts and a signature from Trump that resembled pubic hair, accompanying a message wishing Epstein a happy birthday and suggesting that each day could be a “wonderful secret.”

Trump dismissed the report as false, asserting that the letter was not genuine. He also took to social media to announce his intention to sue, criticizing Murdoch, the head of News Corp, for allegedly not taking action against the story. Trump posted on Truth Social that he would be filing a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Murdoch, accusing them of publishing a false, malicious, and defamatory story.
