Ukraine reports overnight Russian airstrikes targeting energy infrastructure

Kiev : Russian forces once again conducted airstrikes targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Ukrainian officials announced on Wednesday.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko confirmed the attacks on power generation and distribution facilities in six regions, including Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhya, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia.

Technicians are currently working to assess and repair the damage caused by the attacks.

Galushchenko expressed concern that the attacks were aimed at undermining Ukraine’s ability to produce and transmit electricity efficiently. He urged citizens to conserve electricity as a means of contributing to the country’s resilience.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported widespread air alerts across the country as Russian combat drones and missiles were detected, with one missile reportedly aimed at Kiev. However, military authorities confirmed interception of all approaching threats.

In the outskirts of Brovary, a civilian infrastructure site caught fire, resulting in injuries to a man and a woman, according to Mayor Ihor Saposchko.

Reports also indicated the firing of a Kinzhal hypersonic missile at western Ukraine. These attacks are part of Russia’s ongoing military campaign, which has been targeting both military and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine for over two years, aiming to disrupt energy systems and other vital services.
